perhaps try talking to them again, maybe look after a friends dog for a few days and that may scare off the cats.
most people who have pets care a great deal about them, if i found my pet cat in a gin trap that the neighbour had set for it i would press charges, and hope they did jail time with free sodomy from their big horney cell mate.

Every time you find cat shit throw it back over the fence.

Trap them and take them to an animal shelter in a different town or suburb. May seem cruel to both the cat and the owner but if they're not going to take responsibility for their domesticated animals maybe someone in a different town will.

My dog can be taken away for just barking and having a little nibble on the cat next door when the cat strays into my yard so I would say stuff the people next door trap them and release them into the wild outdoors somewhere in the coromandel about 20 Ks from home no more problem , I know this method works . :D :D

or just throw your dogs shit back over the fence and see how they like it when there kids get it all over them while playing in there own back yard .

Yes I also have no time or synpathy for cats that shit in my gardens because the people next door would go staight to the council if it was my dog shitting in there back yard .

In the cage and hose them down, they will not be keen on coming back over the fence again and it does them no harm other than emotional! Six cats 0n 600 squares I would think that an official written approach to the council would also be a good move and if that doesn't work you could always become a nimby and start a letter writing campaign to the paper. A couple of cats I can understand but 6?
Being vertical and breathing, it's gotta be a good day.

The more the empire tightens its grip the more that slips through its fingers...

These are the good old days, make the most of them.

I really don't hold a grudge against the cats but I will never like them, they are just doing what comes naturally to them but it is the owners and the animal control I am most pissed off with. I know i could take the law into my own hands and deal with the problem once and for all but I would probably run the risk of further repercussions with the law at a later date. I have tried throwing the cat shit back over the fence but it doesn't seem to worry the owners at all. These peple don't have any kids of their own but treat these cats like babies.
I have so far sent five emails to Animal Control and never once have they responded by email, even after request to acknowledge receipt of the email always one of their officers has turned up at the house to get the details. It is almost like they don't want to leave a paper trail that can be traced back to them, I have kept copies of every email I have sent them in case I need it as evidence at a later date.I have also kept copies of three letters sent to the cats owners to make them aware of the problem and this was done after verbally telling them of the problem on at least three consecutive occasions. I will keep pestering animal control but if I don't get a respose soon it will force me to do something I don't want to have to do. My wife and I feel we are not being unreasonable to be able to have some privacy and to not have our property invaded by these furry fleabags.
I can understand why people can take the law into there own hands when they feel they have there backs to the wall and are getting no help from the people who are supposed to administer these problems.

My next door neighbors dog killed a cat many years ago ... I heard it happen ... wasn't pleasant. But I had to clean up as she was away. In short ... I put the animal on the road ... it was flat by morning and hard to tell what killed it.

Moral of the story ... if the neighbors animals are dumb enough to come play with a Rottweiler chained up on its own property, then the dog can hardly be blamed for playing rough, and a flat kitty tells no tails <<< yes that is on purpose :)

Cats are the scourge of the environment, ask anyone who lives in the country what there animal brings in at night and leave all over the floor to clean up in the morning, and thats just what you happen to see them chowing on. I eradicated the cats in a section of the farm 6 months ago and now i have 7-8 rabbits there which is fine because they are breeding stock for cannon fodder at a later date. As for dropping them off in the sticks? thats just crazy, cats are like humans, they move in and breed/consume until there is nothing left. Its amazing the amount of wildlife that comes back when you rid the area of these pesky felines. The animal control guy told us that if there are dogs on our land then they can be shot (unless the owner is with them of course) so why not cats?
Sometimes what is "right" isn't as important as what is "profitable"........ sad but true

Bretta, That is the very reason why I am looking for a permanent solution to the problem, I just can't go with releasing them to have them return and do the same thing to either me or someone else. We have to register our dogs and abide by restrictions on the number we can have on a residential property, any complaints and warnings are given and if not heeded the dog is removed from the property, why not the same rules for cats?
If neglected cats only take about 3 months to go completely feral and they are a far bigger threat to our native wildlife than dogs are. I have seen animal control picking up dogs on the streets but I have never seen them picking up stray cats that are roaming the neighbourhood.
Perhaps it is time for cat registration or at the very least making all cats sold at pet stores and such shops neutered.
